On the Tightrope Preorders Announcement

It’s come to my attention that the shop I was originally using to take preorders for the Loki devotional doesn’t support international orders. Dear self: check these things before launching stuff.

So to remedy this, I’ve changed the shop to a different provider and will keep preorders open two days longer, until August 8th. So please help me spread the word and order your copy if you haven’t already! Preorders are at a lower price and include a free print, so don’t miss out!

PREORDER: On the Tightrope: A Loki Devotional

I’m closing preorders for my Loki devotional on August 6th so I have enough time to order and get everything together before the full launch. Preorder prices are lower ($10 for print as preorder; it goes up to $15 after launch) and include a free postcard print! Don’t miss out!

PREORDER: On the Tightrope: A Loki Devotional

Loki Devotional Preorders are Open!

On the Tightrope: a Loki Devotional is in the final stages of formatting and prep for launch, so I’m opening up preorders! This collection includes poetry, prose, and prayer written by me (a queer, nerdy Lokean and Pop Culture Pagan)–divided into sections for general devotionals and consort devotionals–and beautiful illustrations like the one above for every piece.

The book will be available in both physical ($10) and ebook ($5) versions, with a special package of both for $12, which will only be available as a preorder special. In addition, all preorders of the physical books will come with a print of your choice from these six options.

Assuming nothing goes terribly, terribly wrong (in which case, I will be in touch), the books should be available by late July or early August. I plan to send out preorders the week it becomes available for general orders, so you should get them quicker (and with more goodies).

Update 1: Week One Update · On the Tightrope: A Loki Devotional

Today marks one week into the campaign–and we’re 11% funded.
Huge, huge thanks to everyone who’s backed this little devotional
collection so far. I seriously can’t express how grateful I am for all
your support.

In the next few days, I’ll have the collection of
illustrations available for all backers to look at so you can decide
which print(s) you’d like, if you’re getting a print as part of your
reward tier. If you can’t decide between the amazing images (personally,
I kind of want all of them), remember that you can add extra prints to
your rewards for only $5 if you’re already getting physical items.

I
also want to set a little challenge to make this a bit of fun, like
Loki would want: If we can reach 30% funded ($600) by next Wednesday
(May 23rd), the two-week mark, I’ll add special Loki bookmarks to the
rewards.

The Skytreader and Shapeshifter tiers will get a PDF download
of the bookmark design. All the reward tiers above that will receive the
PDF and a physical bookmark. I’ll reveal the design itself if we can
reach this goal, so help spread the word and encourage people to donate!

Thanks again for your support so far, everyone. I’m super excited about
this project, and it’s amazing to see other people excited for it, too.
Let’s make sure it happens!

Update 1: Week One Update · On the Tightrope: A Loki Devotional

One of the friends I asked to help with art for my Lokean devotional just sent me a bunch of draft pieces and I’m so freaking excited to put this all together.

I have one more written piece to finish (for a current total of twelve pieces: six general devotionals and six consort-specific devotionals), edits, and formatting with the art. Then I’m going to try and kickstart it so I can print the hardcopies locally on recycled paper.

So consider this an official “keep your eyes open for a kickstarter campaign” announcement, I guess?

Devotional Poem: My Taming

When he first came to me,

Masked and robed in

Someone else’s shape,

I fled

In breathless awe of this

Ruthless mythic creature.

Zie did not give chase,

Like some rabid monster

Bent on claiming my flesh

For zir own

(Though that was zir goal

In the end).

No,

This shapeshifter

With bloodied claws and

Star-filled eyes,

Broken heart written

A thousand times in

Every carefree smile,

Extended a hand,

Soft and patient,

Limned with whispered promises

Of safety and welcome.

They wooed me leisurely,

Approaching me time and again

As if I were the creature to be tamed,

With snarling teeth and

Raging bloodlust

(In a way I was:

Lost, angry, feral,

Shedding the skin of so much

Betrayal, hurt, loneliness).

They circled patiently, waiting for the

Time to approach and

Soothe my raised hackles.

Little by little,

So slowly it must have

Driven her mad with desire,

I spiraled toward her wild

Magic: raw, and constantly

Threatening to swallow me whole.

I learned to find comfort in her

Dangerous smile, and to

Trust that she–

In all her undefinable,

Shifting, silken-lie glory–

Wished not to make me a

Broken, lifeless spoil of war,

But to teach me to embrace

My own danger, my own

Bloodied claws and

Star-filled eyes,

Broken heart written

A thousand times in

Blood on the page and

Tears on my cheeks.

I could not have dreamed,

In that time I battered myself against the

Walls of invisible cages in the dark,

That he would be my savior,

The ever-changing constant,

That zie would tend my wounds

Both physical and internal, and

Teach me to stand once more,

Head held high and fangs bared,

That they would claim my flesh,

My soul, my very being,

Not from forcing a bridle on my nose,

But from building a home of

Broken sticks and thunderstorms,

That she would be the rainbow sparks

Dancing in waterfalls,

Drawing me forward,

Or that I would offer myself as

Haughtily as a housecat,

To curl forever in the

Untamed, tangled warmth,

Of Loki.
